I just bought a F250 Super Duty V10 about two weeks ago and im getting about 10.5 MPG. I was wondering what is the best way or product/s to get better MPG?
Driving habits is key in my mind. If you really baby it, it does pretty well. As soon as you unleash any of it's awe inspiring power and all bets are off! I find it very hard to resist having just a little fun screwing around. So I limit my unnecessary driving. I still make 12.5mpg around town. Thats with a 2k1 F250sc 4x4 auto 3.73 gears on stock 265s with 91k on the clock.
hey.iwas in a 6.0 psd yesterday & asked what he got for mpg ,he hit the comp. inthe roof ,it said 13.0 mpg. was not towing. at least you didn't spend 4-5 k to get 2 mpg better & pay more for fuel bseg ,barry
As I fueled up today I discovered that one night of mischief cost me .9 miles per gallon off the norm. I dropped to 11.6 mpg, but it was all in good fun and I'd do it again.
It is a 1999 F250 Super Duty V10, has a 4 inch lift with 33 1/2 inch tires. No engine modifications, no intake, it has a flowmaster(super 40) muffler, and the exhaust pipe is bigger than stock(3 inch). It only has 31,000 miles. Im getting about 10.5 MPG. I was wondering what is the best way or product/s to get better MPG?
I dont think the stock exhaust is 3 inch, I have had about 5 people tell me its not stock, the store I bought the muffler said the exhaust pipe wasnt stock, and that it is bigger than stock. Also the people who installed the muffler said its not stock and that its bigger. One of my friends dad has a ford f250 super duty and his exhaust pipe isnt as big as mine.

On my 2003 SD V10 the exhaust is 3"...and all OEM. Not sure about the '99 OEM stock.
What gears you have? If you have the 3.73s, then you are getting GREAT mileage for your setup. Change them to the 4.30s or 4.56s...and you might get 0.5 -- 3 mpg better. Maybe...
Has your PCM been recalibrated for the different tire size? That is a MUST...will allow you to actually know what mileage you are getting...and record the proper miles on your truck.

Return your SD to OEM stock form. Remove the lift...and install the original size tires. Sorry for the BAD news...but there it is.
1999 2v V10 definitely has the poorly designed "T" collector before the catalytic converter...size of the final exhaust, be it 2.5", 3" or 3.5" is not that big a deal. But most all 99-04 are 3" from the cat through the factory muffler and out to the rear
The lift and the wider taller tires are probably the worst mods that can be done to these trucks if you need tow/haul capacity or best MPG possible. Sure they look cool and the lift and tire change can be made to compliment the performance.... but it takes a lot more time and money then a simple bolt on lift kit and tire change.
This truck most likely has the 3.73:1 rear gears and in purely stock form was in the 11.5~12.5MPG range before the lift.
Re gearing to 4.10:1 or 4.30:1 will bring the power band back in line with cruise speeds but getting back 2 MPG for all the bucks and labor is a crap shoot... some motors give back the lost efficiency and others tend to eat more fuel... most of the time it is right foot related.... acceleration of a 4 ton machine faster then most cars is addicting!
Is this a dually?
Has the Speedo been re-calibrated? (33" tires can be adjusted for within the programing of the original PCM)
1999 with only 31K on the clock is a curiosity...
The PLUGS need changing!
Bet the fuel filter also is 7~8 years old!
Suspect the tire pressure is around 45~55PSI... Ride is soft but MPG is impacted severely at lower tire pressures on these machines... I recommend 65~75PSI or what ever the Max on side wall is minus 5~10PSI for max MPG

Hmmm...I thought they had the Ram's horn design. Rather freer flowing than the "T" but produced the "flutter" once the power was increased for 2000, hence the redesign in 2001 to the crappy, weird T pipe. And probably the only "T"-pipe ever made.
I dont think that 10.5 is that bad considering what you are driving. I Found that with putting a flowmaster on anything will make you push it just a little bit harder to hear the rumble..........i know i do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
