I got an 86 bII. it leaks when it rains.soaks the drivers seat, and all carpet.I can't imagine how that much water could get in other than if the side window seals were dryrotted.I was wondering if anyones had any similar problems?
p.s. I never thanked the people that helped with the last problem.
If the door gasket is not all torn up, especially near the top, you could try treating it with di-electric silicone or Sil-Glide. These products replace the "softening" chemicals in the rubber gasket and help fatten them up. Just for the record, Sil-Glide is a one time deal because it seems to break down most plastics and maybe rubber too. It will, been there done that, fatten up the door gasket really well, but at what cost????????
AL.
Check the drains that are under the vent that is between the hood and the windshield. I had have an '87 that had a simmilar problem after I bought it. I couldn't figgure out where it was comming from either untill the weather turned to freezing and the drains froze the water\slush level raised high enough that it shorted out the wiper motor and drained the battery. It turned out to be just leaves that had blocked the drain holes and started to decompose. I cleared out the drains and stoped parking under the tree and havent had any mor problems with watter in the cab or the battery losing power.
If your weatherstripping should need replacing, they can be gotten cheaply on ebay.
My window sweeps, door seals and window channels were rotten, and I found them
all there.
have you checked your head liner. i know my windshield leaked getting the set and fllor wetter then sh?t. if thats the case get some clear silocon and go around your window trim outside. i paid 145.00 for a new windshield and it didnt fix the problem becuase the fram around the window was rusted some and they would not warranty it.
Mine is due to a window seal failure seems to be never ending, shop found out that the insulation in the front door (passenger side) was blocking the drain in the door, so the water would come into the car and pool my carpet as well.
Hey guys, I didn't find the leak yet, but I'm going to silicone the windshield, and the rear side windows 'cause the seals are looking pretty ratty.thanks for the ideas, and I'll let you know if I find anything else.
I gave up after doing all the above except replacing door seals. I ripped up all the carpet, replaced with rubber matts, ( this is my off road vehichle anyway) and now I just park it inside the garage. Seems to be the best solution so far!
