won't stop running!!!!

I have a 1986 F-150 XLT lariat. 302 auto with A/C. during the last 8 years the truck has been very reliable. Recently when my wife used my truck, she told me she couldn't turn it off. I figured the ignition switch was probbly worn out and replaced it. I did not see any improvement. When the truck does shut off with the ignition switch, I can hear a relay under the dash clicking. Unplugging the relay stops the clicking, but there is still a drain on the battery. I must physically disconnect the battery in order to prevent it from discharging 100%.

While driving I can feel the ignition momentarily turning off, then back on. Sometimes frequently, other times not.

I'm certain the ignition switch was replaced correctly. Although I plan on tripple checking that.

Anyone have any ideas where to start?

Also, I don't seem to have access to the forum search function. How do I get that working?

The search is shut down until fte gets a new server. I got nothing on your problem, try to find a wiring diagram and see what controls what.

Ok, heres what I have been able to find out so far:
  1. there is a constant 5 amp drain on the battery regardless of the keyswitch position.
  2. If I unplug the relay under the dash board inside the passenger compartment(fuel pump relay?), the truck will stop running. The 5 amp drain is still there.
  3. If I unplung the green relay at the firewall R-hand side engine compartment. the 5 amp drain is still there.
  4. there are 4 14 ga. wires at the starter solenoid. By removing 1 at a time I was able to eliminate the 5 amp drain. The wire is either black or brown at a short distance from the solenoid it is spliced into a yellow/white wire black and one other color I don't remember. It seems the y/w wire is part of the starting and charging system.
  5. The wires on each of the relays that activate them are 12V regardless of key position.
  6. When I turn the keyswitch to the off position the A/C clutch disengauges, instrument panel turns off and blower for the heater stops, engine still running.
So as I see it the keyswitch is either a wrong part or defective. OR I have an exposed wire somewhere providing power to the fuel relay and EEC relay when it shouldn't be getting it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, if I REMOVE the ignition switch from the equation (physically unplug it). with all the wire and relays plugged in I should not have a 5 amp drain on my battery. if I rember correctly there should only be a .05 amp drain max under normal conditions.

If I do still have a drain on the battery it would indicate a shorted wire.

let me know if I am correct with my thoughts.

Thanks!
