Alright I bought a 79' F-150 with an 80/81 302. So here's the deal, it doesn't run for crap. What is the firing order and the timing supposed to be? I can't seem to get it dialed in and any help would be great.
So here are the symptoms, it idles real lopey and when you accelerate it
backfires and dies or won't come up to speed. Is this the timing or something else?

Sounds like vacuum leak to me. Don't remember the firing order at the moment(CRS). Once you eliminate the firing order and or wet or cracked dizzy cap. I would look for open vacuum lines and use a can of brake clean or either if you are outside. Start the engine spray the brake clean, WD40, Either around where the head and intake manifold meet as well as the base of carb. Check the throttle linkage that runs through the carb and holds the throttle plates for up and down or side to side play. If the engine revs while spraying it down you have found a leak. If any play in the throttle ya need to re bush it or replace it. The carb that is.
Hope this helps.... also check the vacuume at the dizzy, it should be ported (no vacuume at idle)
Hemi,
On a 302 w/Edelbrock intake and carb there is a timed port and a full port, the full port is on the right if facing from the front. Which should I be using?
