I'm about to undertake the replacement of my heater core. On way to work this am had the sweet smell of anti-freeze coming through the vents. I found a step by step guide for a 97 F-150, does anyone know if this would be the same procedure. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Yes,it'll be almost identical to an F150. I did it on my '98 F150,and I'll warn you-take your time, and be careful with the clips and screws that hold the dash in place. If you miss any of them going back-you'll have an irritating rattle. It'll take 8-10 hours if you're mechanically inclined, more if you're not.

7 hours into the project, hung up on getting the dash to release. The RH side is free, the left hand side seems still attached somewhere. So many nuts and screws, it crazy. How far back does the RH side need to go to get to the core, I can get about 4 inches right now. Anymore ideas or pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks
I had to pull the steering column loose, and also the shifter cable to clear the dash so I could get it out easily.
Here's a few pics to show how much crap is in there to take loose:

I just finished replacing the blend door on my 98 and here are some things that might help. After dropping the steering column did you get the 3 screws above where the column sets. The dash needs to come back more than 4 inches to get to the heater core. The top of the case comes off on the right side of the heater case and that will get you to the heater core. There is one screw hidden down behind in the middle that has to come out to get this section off.
That took me most of 8 hours to do. Those instruction were pretty good, except on my 97 I have the full center console that goes up to the dash. This needs to be disassembled to do the rest of the job and without instructions it was kind of a pain to figure out how to take it apart. I only ended up with three extra screws from the dash. Make sure to label everything in seperate baggies. I thought it was kind of stupid at first. After you get so many screws out it is hard to remember what goes where.
Tip on full center console. Take this out first. You need power to move the driver side electric seat forward to get to the rear bolt holding the driver side of the console in. If you have the CD changer, the shield to the CD changer has a flap in the front that makes getting it out possible. Other than than the center console is a bunch of clips and screws.
