I am going to freshen up my 1996 f-150 4X4 351W.
When I have it apart, I am going to reuse stock cam and lifters.
Probably will rebore with stock type pistons. Question is heads!
Should I just pocket port and gasket match or should I get different ones?
Like GT 40 P or I have set of World Windsor Sr.
Pickup is half highway cruise and 1/4 tow open car trailer 5000# and 1/4 off road like weed sprayer and wood hauler. Power seems okay now, but always want more.
As far as which head to use, would probably be best to known what cc the combustion chambers on your choices for heads are. Too small a chamber with a flat top piston can get the compression ration up too high and cause detonation and other problems. I really like the GT-40 heads, great performance for the price....
One of the main things I want to be able to do; is idle along in 4 wheel drive at 1000 rpm and also it shifts under load at 4500 rpm. I am not sure any other than stock cam is what I want. I don't need 6000 rpm and wild idle. I want the power range to be 750 to 4000. With a dished stock piston I can use 60 cc head?
i'd run the preformer cam it's like 204 214 @ .050 477 lift real nice low end torque cam. A lot of cam manufactures offer it. Plus you can run your stock valve train. use the heads you have just port the exhuast side, leave the intake as is. Gasket matching at this level would be useless.
