I have an '06 F-150 FX4 Screw with the audiophile and Sirius radio. The Sirius radio is cool but I am truly not in my truck enough to warrant a subscription just for my truck. This is my plan.....I want to get rid of the Satelite radio in my truck and use a handheld that can be moved from home to truck to work, etc. Now my big question is.....do I already have the pie adapter for my stock deck in the truck? I want to have the line-in capability but I do not want the factory satelite radio in my truck. I will, however, keep that antenna in position. I know this whole scenario may sound unorthodox to some but it's all a matter of want. BTW, I am an electronics tech so feel free to use technical jargon. Any help will be appreciated because your experience is going to keep me from tearing my new baby down to parade rest for no good reason. Thanks all.
I have had aSirius Sportster in mine for over two years, and I love it. From what I understand, you will need the pie adapter to play the satellite through the trucks stereo. It somehow tricks the stereo into thinking you have the overhead dvd player. There was no pie adapter when I had mine installed, so I have to use the fm modulator. I can tell you that it loses some sound quality through the fm. Go with the adapter if you can. Also, I think you may be out of luck keeping the same antenna. The sirius unit has a jack in the back, and I doubt it will match up with the one in the truck. You also did not mention whether you were going with Sirius or XM. My wife just got a new Impala. It comes with XM. I talked to a few people about getting a XM-Sirius converter. Apparently The antennas do not work well if you switch, and everyone I talked to said I would need a Sirius antenna. I personally would kill for the stock stereo with Sirius. I would also get a second subscription with a portable unit to take other places. I am able to listen at work, and can not stand terrestrial radio. The commercials, and the annoying morning Djs are too much for me to handle.
I think I may have confused you with my long drawn out story. I already have Sirius satelite radio in my truck, it came factory installed. I was wondering because it was factory installed, do I already have a pie adapter in the truck? If not I will defintely get one but I was just curious to know if I had one. I am gonna need to tear my dash apart to find out unless someone here in the forum already knows and saves my unknowing butt from doing it. To answer the other question, I am sticking with Sirius because I have a serious (no pun intended) NASCAR addiction and NASCAR is going to Sirius radio as of January 2007.
From an electronics standpoint...all satelite antennas are of the same configuration no matter if they are for radios or gps. Some are made more inferior by construction than others. Basically, if my satelite radio antenna works with my truck it will work with any other satelite radio so long as I can make the connectors play well with each other.
Ok Okie, You are probably right. I was listening to someone Who was trying to sell me an antenna. I have no Idea if you could plug into what you already have there. I'm trying to think of my wifes XM setup in her chevy. Good luck with that! Just remember, your second subscription is half price. Before you buy $200 worth of adapters you could probably get a Sportster with a home docking kit for $100-150, and keep the nice clean stock look in the truck.
I didn't understand the manufacturers of vehicles putting Sirius or XM in vehicle radios. Why I say that is because, after the free trial, you have to pay for the service, but your stuck with the radio only in that vehicle. I have Sirius radio, but it's the portable unit that can be used with my home stereo or in my F-150 or my Taurus. Just plug it in where you want to listen to it and you only need 1 subscription. You can buy additional subscriptions for a lower rate, but with the portable, you don't have to. I suppose if you only have the one vehicle and don't want to listen to sattelite radio in your home, it wouldn't matter much. Just my thoughts on this.
i have a top of the line Kenwood stereo with the sirius tuner and antenna. it has a motorized removable faceplate. this radio gives 3 lines of info (artist, song title, time, station, etc) i'm looking to trade it for a factory sirius radio for my '04 lariat. i paid around $500 for everything. intrested? gregsh@charter.net
