Hello All!

I Am new to your board and wanted to introduce myself. I am about to make my first purchase on a 49' Ford F1 to restore. I am 28 and have always wanted to rebuild an old ford truck. My goal is to turn my new purchase into a beautiful Street Rod and show stopper (too ambitious as a first timer?) I am hoping that with my little knowledge and experience this board will help me gain my knowledge and experience step by step. I plan on asking a lot of questions and passing on any new found information I come across to all of you. I apologize now for any stupid questions I may ask as time goes on but again I am learning as you all had at one time.

Once I learn how to post images I will post my F1 for you all to see and any links to photo galleries of 48-52 F1's and good places to purchase my accessories would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome aboard! You might want to change your username before you do too many posts so after a few months (or years) of working the board you're not still "The_Newbie".

I recently posted this comment I read on another board but I think it bears repeating: There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers. Don't be afraid to ask whatever you want - related to Ford trucks of course. One helpful hint - folks on the board appreciate it when other members search the board archives first to see if their question has already been answered. If you forget, someone will be sure to point you to all the great info in the archives.

As far as your project being too ambitious, it all boils down to how much time, money, and effort you're willing to put in. With proper research ahead of time, some practice, and a lot of hard work you can do just about whatever you want. If a guy with ten thumbs like me can restore a truck anything is possible.

George

Welcome - we're glad you found this site - you'll save valuable time and effort and $$ by asking questions. Don't hesitate to post answers o/b of your experiences - we'll be learning from you too.

Michael,

welcome to the group... don't fret being a newbie and ask all the questions you want.. I bet I've asked the same ones... good info from George on the archives.. there is a bunch of information there... If I can do anything to help you drop me a line.

The guys in this group are the most knowledgable, helpful, honest and handsome people you'd ever want to meet... and BTW plan on doing that next year at the Supernationals in Pigeon Forge.. I'll be there, will you ???

gud luck on your project

john

Welcome to the board. Look forward to seeing your project progress. A good place to start is a Ford Shop Manual and some part catalogs. There's a list of places to get these linked from my trucks' web page (see below). Also, be sure to monitor ebay and hemmings for part deals (also linked).

Have fun,

A special thank you to each of you, George, Tim, John and Mike for welcoming me aboard! I am sure I Will be asking each of you questions here very very shortly as I begin my F1 project.

George, I have been spending a lot of time searching old threads that relate to my project and have already found quite a bit of info on where to start. It's funny there was so much more that I didn’t realize needed to be done, but it makes me just that more excited to get started.

Mike, Thanks for the link, quite a bit of links on your page and I look forward to visiting them.

Tim, I agree with you 110% on asking questions will save me a lot of time and money. I had nightmares of not having anyone to ask about certain things only to find out I did it wrong and then I would have to tear it down all over again to fix it.

John, I would love to go to the Supernationals in Pigeon Forge, where is Pigeon Forge? And what can I expect to see there, remember I am new to all of this. Should I expect to see a lot of board members there?

I have seen Georges progression pics (waiting for mike's) and I can’t wait for that to be me! Do you other guys have any progression pics? Love to see them.

THANKS AGAIN!!!

Michael

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Jul-02 AT 02:10 PM (EST)]Pigeon Forge is in Tennessee just east of Knoxville, a vacation spot for a lot of us Southern boys.. Every year in May the F-100 Supernationals are held there. You can see anywhere between 400-600 of the finest f-100s, f-1s and even some late model trucks in every configuration from bone stock restoration to some wild custom jobs. It's almost like a family reunion for a lot of folks. Pat Ford Promotions puts it on and it's insomething like its 26th year. It's held at the Grand Hotel Convention center and besides the trucks there are too many vendors to count selling everything you could possibly need for your truck... this is the premier gathering for us crazy truck persons. lots of places to stay and things to do and Gatlinburg is just a nice ride down the road..

didn't catch where you are, but folks from all over the US and Canada attend... it will be worth the trip I promise.. check the net for Pigeon Forge convention information or tourist information and you'll see info on the weekend... it's usually the 3rd weekend in May.. so save your money and some vacation time and join us... there is also a pretty good gathering of FTE folks and we try to get together for a meal sometime during the event..

do a google or yahoo search on "f-100 supernational" for links with info, pics and details...

John

Thanks John, I am in Illinois so that wouldn't be to far from me. Is there other "truck conventions," so to speak, sooner than May? I know once I see what some of these vendors have to offer I will want it and of course thats no good after you bought something else

They have all kinds of shows here in Illinois for cars (not sure about trucks but I am sure they would come to) that I see in the papers so I will look for something in this area and will let you all know.

Michael

Mark your calendar for Sept. 13-14th. Badgerland F100's hosts a Ford truck show in Wisconsin Dells. They are giving away a rebuilt 460 and C6 and a restored Ford gas pump. They also have valve cover racing and HotWheels racing.

Oleblue70, I look forward to swapping progression pics and ideas with you as we go along! As for the name it has a little sentimental value to it so I am going to keep a while, hopefully as I get to know everyone and my knowledge expands it will be just a name

JML I have already been to your site (I have been doing a lot of searching for similar F1 projects on here) and I must say it is quite impressive! I hope I will get my picture posted on your site soon, what to you think? As for the parts manual I have been a little over zealous and have a quite a few different catalogs on there way and now I will check out your suggestion as well.

Wisc. Dells is not to far away from here so I will definitely be there in September Truckfarmer. I just missed a classic car show in Peoria IL this past weekend but I guess the turnout wasn’t that great because Illinois State Troopers are issuing some kind of ticket to the owners of the cars and trucks, I will have to look into the Illinois Vehicle Code and see what it is these cars are in violation of!

I hate to keep posting on my own thread and taking away from other people’s questions on there trucks so ANYONE feel free to e-mail at msleighton(No Email Addresses In Posts!) and I look forward to getting to know all of you, asking questions and sharing my progression.

Thanks again for the welcome

Michael

where in Illinois are you from? I am about 40 miles from Peoria. I know last year at that show a State Trooper was hassleing the hotrodders for exhaust noise and too low of suspension. He did it for the summer. I was told he got in big trouble for that. Made the local news,,,"Film at 11". Irony of the situation was that the show was for a charity called "Cops for Kids".
email me, maybe we can get together
