Not really sure if this is the right forum, but I figured I'd take a stab at it anyway. I'm getting ready to trade in my '03 ranger for an explorer, and had a question I was hoping somebody would be able to answer for me. My Ranger came stock with just an AM/FM stereo, but I have since added a fairly nice cd player (around $500 when I bought it in '04). Now that I'm trading it in I need to make sure I get as much money as possible out of it so I can pay off the loan. Don't want to end up upside down. Anyway, my question is whether anyone out there knows enough about dealerships to know whether leaving the cd player in would up the trade-in value of the truck by enough to make it worth while, or whether I should take it out and put the factory stereo back in.
they aren't going to give you more. your best bet would be to put the stock head unit back in and selling your aftermarket on Ebay.
the same thing with upgrades like rims and stuff. they don't care about that. If it was something factory installed, like a fancy Bose setup, then you would get more money for the trade in, but since you installed it, it doesn't matter to them.
I delt with the same issue when I traded my '93 Ranger for my F-150 a couple years ago. I just took out the aftermarket head unit and speakers and sold them.
