Clutch slave cyinder - bleeding screw...

Hello once again,

Re: My 1987 F150 4.9L 4 speed

I think my clutch needs bleeding. I read the procedure for doing this and then went out to look at my slave cylinder. Mine is mounted external to the tranny... hung on by a bracket. There is no traditional "bleeder screw" like there is on brakes. I saw in one description that these slave cylinders often have just a plain screw with a hex head on it. I didnt see anything like that on there. If possible could you tell me.....with the slave cylinder still mounted.... where will this screw be located.... in the body of the slave cylinder I know but ..... top side? towards the tranny? away from the tranny? I cant seem to find any pics of the slave cylinder that show this...

Thanks a million,
Bob

If you find out, let me know. I have the same clutch setup as you, and although I've never had any problems, I'd sure like to know how for future reference.

your bleeder screw is located on the bottom of the slave cylinder less than an inch from where the line goes into the slave cylinder. It should be a 5/32 hex head. now exactly how to bleed the system though im still trying to figure that out.

What you need to do to bleed the system..

1) crawl under and put allen wrench onto the bleeder screw.
2) have assistant get in truck and push clutch pedal.
3) as pedal is being pushed open bleeder screw until pedal bottoms out, repeat until fluid comes out of bleeder screw.
4) keep pushing pedal until no more air bubbles are visible in clutch m/c.
