I have some stuff under my truck I have a question about. How do I post a picture in side a message like this to ask ya'll about it? I see the insert image button up there but it brings up an unfamiliar screen.

You'll need to have you picture "hosted" somewhere. You can create a photo album here and then link to the pictures in it. Or you can use a site like photobucket.com or you can create a photo album on yahoo.
To make a photo album on FTE click on "User CP" near the top of the page and then on "Edit Gallery" and go from there.
