EGR Code
EGR valves seldom fail.
SEARCH has been affected due to server capacity problems. Nothing personal towards you or anyone else. Until the new site server is received and installed, the webmaster may need to turn off features that place a heavy load on the system in order to balance performance for other features.
Start with your code. If it's a P0401, it's likely either the DPFE sensor or clogged EGR ports.

Dpfe ?
Thanks for the info projectSHO89,
Well I have already changed the EGR valve and blew out the lines, and to my surprise, the chek engine light re-appears.
I took it back to AutoZone for another code reading and got the same thing, well then they told me to try changing the "EGR Vacuum Solenoid" - $25.
I am not familiar with DPFE, can you please send some info regarding this.
Thanks once again for all the help.

I'm not surprised. If it weren't for those bozos, they'd never sell any EGR valves....
Never let the monkeys at AZ try to diagnose your car. They don't have any credibility beyond retrieving codes and that is sometimes questionable.
What was the EXACT code?

First off call your local Ford Dealership and give them your VIN. You may be eligible for a free DPFE replacement.
If not, go to Autozone and ASK for a DPFE sensor. If they don't know what the heck you're talking about tell them it's the "EGR POSITION SENSOR"
THAT they'll know, although I recommend getting a Motorcraft DPFE from ford, as they are redesigned and much better quality.
Very easy to replace... two small hoses, two bolts, and an electrical connector.

Thanks,
After reviewing the parts and names I came across, what I think is the DPFE sensor, and decided that I will replace that part. Thanks once again for all your help.

I am going to have to wait until payday to replace parts.
That stinks that you still have a code
.
I will let you know what happens after replacing parts that I suspect might be the problem, which will be the first weekend of Dec.
By the way...do you have a pic of the DPFE part that you changed?
I'm really not sure which one that part is.

go to rockauto website. They show pictures for most of their parts. I had an idle problem with my taurus and didn't know what the parts looked like. Matched it up with an egr vacuum regulator (solenoid) and got the part and fixed it.
Thanks, I will do that. I will keep you informed of the outcome.
I might dip into the kids' allowance to get all parts needed.
Thanks for the website aagitch, it is very useful. I bookmarked it for future use.
It was very helpful and I was able to identify the parts.

The DPFE sits forward of the EGR valve and is mounted to a bracket on the right side of the trottle body area (facing the engine from the front). It is square in shape and has two hoses coming into it, which come directly from the EGR pipe. I believe it had two bolts mounting it to a bracket. It also has a electrical connector, which sends the signal back to the computer. I paid $95 at the dealership, but you can get one for around $45 at Advanced Auto Parts.
