I have the flowtech dropside headers for my 302. The p/s header is rubbing against the back of the starter where the wiring is. The question I have is, does ford have another starter that can fit a 302 with the wires on the side of the housing and no longer than about 6-8 inches long???? ANYBODY WITH SUGGESTIONS, PLEASE give up your knowledge.
Motorsport M-11000-A50 is a smaller permanent magnet starter that might fit. They were used on Fords starting around 90 or 91. What year starter do you have? Is it the large frame older starter?
I just put flow tech block huggers in my 52 which has a '79 302 motor. I went to the headers becase I had an interfence with the standard manifolds and the steering box on the drivers side. The new headers fixed that problem but I now have interfence on the starter on the left side with the headers. The interference is not much. Its just as you ddescribe above. If the headers could be bent a little out towards the frame then I would be ok. Is this possible and if so how?
This is an old thread …however stick around someone will be by shortly to answer your question.
