I'm a 16-year-old person looking to buy a '53-'56 ford f-100. I have questions that a cannot find answers to where I live.
1.when looking for a truck what are some things to look out for. (rust, windows, fenders)?
2.I have a 351 engine that I got out of an 84 LTD station wagon. Are there any problems that others have run into or know about when changing engines in an old truck? Can I also use the axel and rear end?
3. If I buy a mustang II front end, is it a lot better to get 11' rotors? do you need power rack and pinion? And what is so good about coil overs? Are they worth it?
4.I plan on using this truck as my everyday truck so are 2' dropped spindles too low?
5.Anything else that anyone has learned through making mistakes would help me to not make them.
I have knowledge and resources available to me and I’m not afraid to tackle anything. Any reply would help me a lot thanks!!!!
I'll tackle a few of your questions. I believe the condition of the body is the most important aspect of a project vehicle. Particularly the cab which can't be easily replaced or shipped. Assuming you want a straight truck when you are done, you can invest an unbelievable amount of hours in rust repair. Drivetrain and chassis repair can usually be completely in a fraction of the bodywork time. A 351 is an excellent engine choice in my opinion. Most any rear end can be used with modification but a 57-72 F100 nine inch bolts in except the shock mounts. 11 brakes are a must in my opinion. Mustang IIs did not weigh 4000 pounds.
