Thermostat Temp?

I'm replacing my water pump after I get my new transmission and I wanted to know what the best temp thermostat was. I have a 195 now but I thought something like a 203 or higher would be better because diesel want to stay warm to run well? Any suggestions?

yes get a 203..i just put this one in http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=186also got this http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=188 cause the stock one is known for leaking..be carefull for the thermostate bolts.. they break alot..spray real good with pb blast or wd-40 the day befor the morning of and just befor you pull the bolts..althow you got a new pump you might just want to get new bolts to begin with..i had to drill and tap 2 bolts on mine..would have been alot easer to replace the pump.lol good luck

I believe that Dieselsite is the only one that manufactures the correct 203 degree thermostat for the later model 7.3s. You can get one at a parts house, but the stem length is incorrect for the waterpump housing bypass port seat. Put some anti-sieze on the all the bolts when installing.

Thanks again Ron. It makes a lot of sense that you want your Diesel to run hotter because as we all know in these winter months until are diesels are warm they run like old carburated gas engines but If we let them idle like we used to on carb models for about ten minutes in the morning they run great. The site you attached had a great explination and I think I'm going to order it. After all this is done I will have a new truck minus injectors but that money is going to thenew transmission.
