Idle time
How long can my SD idel in the morning. I mean this is my first Diesel truck and I wired the hight idel control to upfitter #4. Up hear in Canada it's starting to get cold. So in the morning when I start the truck I leave the upfitter switch on so the idel is high to warm the engine abit. My question is, is this a good practice to keep up and what type on fuel additives should I start putting in my truck.

Ok here it goes. You are going to hear comments about wetstacking and its a valid point. Someone here should comment and give a more detailed explination on it. My persoanl experience comes from were I live. In the winter I will have periods were my truck will idel for hours at a time. For those that live up in the cold (-30 or greater) you probley have done it also. Yes I do understand its not the greatest thing for the motor but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Fortunally for me that very seldom. If I did it more frequently I would get an auto start that is programble that kicks up the idle at pre-determined intervals. I also use to work on the north slope and we would start our PS come Nov and shut them off Mar.
Opps off on a tangent. My opinion is that at a certain point excessive idle is not good. I use Powerservice for my truck and #1 only in the winter.
