Brake trouble

I've got a 93 F-250. The brake pedal will suddenly go to the floor and have no brakes. It doesn't do this all the time though. Its getting more frequent. The rest of the time its fine. Its not losing any fluid. I'm thinking master cylinder? Also, to test the MC i guess I need to plug off the fittings on it. What can I use to plug them? is it just 3/16 pipe thread? Or is it pipe thread at all? Thanks a lot

If it's intermittent, and going all the way to the floor, more than likely it's bypassing, or you have some very serious air in the system. Have you bled or flushed the system recently? If you ever let the pedal back up while bleeding, it'll suck a lot of air back in and be a real pain to get it all bled out again. It isn't that much trouble to replace the M/C since it's out in the wide open. Certainly a lot easier to get to than one on a '70 Beetle. Suit yourself on reman vs. OE Replacement, depending on your experience with reman parts versus new. Typically, reman units are about 1/3 the price, but sometimes, you get what you pay for too.
