tilt steering column

I'm thinking about putting a tilt column in my 55. I have the toyota box and only have a few inches to play with is it necessary to have a damper or some type of free floating shaft between the box and the column or can I connect the column directly to the box.

you will need some sort of a flex connection between them. with body movement and frame twist it is not a good idea to hook the column directly to the steering box.

Jaye,

how much is a few ??? 2 or 6?? you can find most everything you could need at Borgensen... look at my article on tilt column install for some suggestions... the intermediate shaft can be any length or you might get away with just one universal... if it's really tight you could simply use a rag joint like the factory installs...I agree with the direct connect... it's not the best..
