VDO Sending Unit

I have a VDO fuel gauge sending unit in a super screaming deal poly fuel tank (all brand new). It would be nice not to have to tear it out. Anyone know if it will correspond with my Stewart-Warner Wings fuel gauge?

Can the resistance units for the various gauges and S/U's be that far off?

Yes they can be. One can even work totally backwards from the other. What I would do is get the literature on your Stewart-Warner guages, or if you don't have it, go to their website or a vendor site that sells the same thing and see if they have the specs on your fuel gauge. Once you have that, get a meter and set it on ohms and take the readings on the new tank. Hopefully you can flip it upside down to simulate a full reading.

Thanx. I'll give it a try. Naturally, I was hoping for an easy answer. The center of the tank has the pick-up, return, vent and s/u all in a small package held by a bayonet style ring. Its really small to cram in the S/W sender if I had to drill so I was hoping for an easy answer. It just so happens that you don't get an easy answer on a once in a lifetime fuel tank find. Just my luck. I'll break out the VOM meter.
