First, it's the 4R100 trans.
Second, there is no such thing as MERCON 3 fluid. There is MERCON, MERCON V, and MERCON SP.
Ford is discontinuing MERCON fluid in 2007. The 4R100 had only been rated to use MERCON, but now they changed MERCON V so that it is compatible with the 4R100.
You can still get MERCON fluid, and that's what I'd use. If you can't find it, MERCON V is now good for it, too.
