AOD trannys do not do well in heavy traffic. Ford had 1000's of warranty issues beginning in 1980 when it was introduced. There is no external cooler (xcept on tow paks) and in heavy traffic, the trans searches between drive and overdrive...the heat build up cooks the trans.
The largest limo company in SoCal converted all their Town Cars over to C-6's staring in 1983....and was still doing it in 1987.
Save your trans..stay out of o/d in heavy traffic.
