I bought back my pickup from high school, and since I have a little more cash on hand than back then, I would like to hop it up a little. I'd like to use the stock efi setup and focus on a cam, or something, supercharger or a turbo aside, just looking for some advice. I'm positive someone here has built the engine I'm wanting to. The truck will be an all around ride, emphasis on ride. It will on occassion pull a trailer, but not often. It's an '86 F150 reg cab lwb 2wd w/ 302 efi and a c-6 with 3.55 gears in the back, any help would be appreciated.
well your running speed density. so cam selection is limited, just make sure that the lobe seperation is 114* or more and the computer will be happy. I would start with some long tube headers and either a single 3" exhaust or 2.5" duals with an H or x pipe. once this is done then look into a cam. the c6 is a great tranny but can also be a power hog, if it needs a rebuild you will find it to perform far better as well and shouldnt cost to much.
Hey, thanks man, I figured you might have some insight for me from reading some of your other posts. I was already gonna look into the headers, just didn't know about the cam, as far as what I could do and keep the comp the way it is, also am a big fan of the c6. I like the AOD as well, just trying to keep the vin matching on this one. What do you think of a gearvendor or a brownlight? I don't know much about the after market od setups.
Definitely a sweet setup...and I think it would be the only setup I would want if I got an automatic (i've only owned manual tranny vehicles). My father had that c6 in his F-250 and I loved it, making it OD and into a six speed is just that much better.
I think I would enjoy that enough to have it....but I love shiftin' gears too.
If your looking to keep things on the down-low as far as engine goes, there isnt much you can do. But just like Kemicalburns said, long tubes into 3" with a high flow cat and a flowmaster or other decent muffler, get a A9L MAF computer and harness off of like ebay or something, find an HO cam, lifters and approprite hardware, get an 87+ mustang TFI module (preferably remote mounted) because it has more spark dwell than the 86 truck TFI.
