9" into 53
I'm installing a 9" rear from a 72 f100. Can the e brake cables from the 53 be used on the 9" or what e brake cables do you use?
Also can anyone tell me how to determine if it's a posi or not?

I believe the e brake connects the same way. When I made the swap in my 48, I changed the backing plates too - I had just rebuilt my brake system and didn't want to loose the cost of new wheel cyl, brake shoes, etc. The backing plates were the same.
If you have a tag on the rear showing the ratio it will have an 'L' in the number. (3.50:1 would be numbered 3L50 9)

If there is not tag (or you can't read it), jack the rear-end up so both rear wheels are off the ground. Turn one tire in a 'forward' rotation and watch the other tire. If it also turns forward, you have a 'posi' rear gear. If it turns the opposite direction, it is an 'open' rear gear.
