take a small piece of sandpaper or steel wool and clean the terminals of the sockets. Also clean the tail light socket. I know you didnt mention it giving you trouble but sometimes weird things happen. On my 79 250 the taillight wouldnt blink because of the front turn signal. This is probably the most common electrical problem these trucks have.
Mine did the same thing on both sides and I found the problem was no ground at the bulb. In my case the ground was broken inside the socket. I just made a ground jumper that bypasses the socket and solved the problem.
I dismantled both front and rear lights. Sprayed the sockets with contact cleaner Tuesday night and let it set until Thursday night when I had time to look at it. I turned on the running lights and all was normal. Tried the blinkers...all is normal.....Drove it around...all is normal. Seems to have fixed itself.....
