Getting it to run...

OK so my last post I was worried about the timing gears being off.... I think I got that worked out. Now the motor is in the car and I am trying to get it to run. Check my dis. to see if the #1 was lining up at TDC and it looks like it is, I crank it up and it stits and sputters. So I turn the dis. a little bit and try again, it fires but it sounds like it has a big cam in it ( super loppy rough idle) I was trying to bring the RPMs up to break in the cam but it wan't run smooth, so I cut it off... Whats my problem? could it ba a vlave adjustment problem? I adjusted them Like before, and lasttime it worked just fine. I think the problem is with the postion of the Dis.

Any help would be good..

Thanks

Sounds like you may want to pull the distributor out and move it one more gear position to give your self a little more adjustment. Is there still room to turn the distributor and advance the timimng without taking the distributor out?
Maybe try and turn the idle speed screw in a little to raise the rpms to get your cam broke in and then set you timing after it is broke in

I had that same problem after I had rebuilt mine. It was my valves. A few of the nuts had worked themselves loose and the rockers had worked themselves off from the rods. I had to adjust them all over again.
Of course that was after my initial problem of being 180 out.

Thanks for the input guys.... As soon as I typed up my first message I relized what was wrong. It was just like Ranger said, it was one tooth out. The distrubitor was close, but not close enough to adjust it to 12 degrees BTDC. Picked the dis. up and moved it a tooth and that baby smoothed right out....

Thanks again guys!!! Now I got to figure out where this crazy vibration is coming from...
