I just bought a 1979 ford f-150 w/ the 460 engine. I want to get some more power out of it but i dont want to spend a lot of money. I was wondering if anyone new about any cheap easy ways to get more power.
depends on what year the motor is, but running an earlier model straight up timing chain will definatly help (most of the roller timing chain sets have all gone to straight up, or can be adjusted for it). Headers are another area since the 460s have a fairly restrictive exhaust, and putting in a cam with atleast 8 preferably 10 or more degrees of exhaust timing than the intake will also be a help and not too expensive to do and can be done at the same time as a alum aftermarket intake to ease some of the costs.
Thank you I was planing on puting a edelbrock 750 or 800 cfm carb on it w/ an edelbrock intake. This summer I am also going to put headers and a 3" exhaust on it. I heard u can also change the weights and springs in the distributor and that that is suppose to help also i don't know if that is true or not.

If you decide to get a new distributor, consider our D.U.I.-Davis Unified Ignition or our custom curved Duraspark distributor. Please see them at:
if your looking at saveing a few bucks if your current dis is in good shape just take it apart and weld it up it is a easy thing to do just take the springs out and weld it so it wont twist and set your timming at 35-36 that way you are fully advanced at all times dont go and wast money on a spendy dis a stock dis is the same thing as a msd or anyother fancy pricy dis as long as it is eletronic it will work fine also i would recomend a set of c8ve c9ve or dove heads that will boost your comp up and take care of the pollution power robbing issue and ebay has always got alum intakes cheap and headers is a must and a good rebuilt holley and i think you will have alot fun and shouldnt cost 2 much

A locked out advance can lead to hard starts and having full advance at all rpms can definitley lead to a lack of performance, detonation, etc. We don't recommend it except on some drag cars.
that might be true i run a welded dis on my pulling truck and it is not a st.legle truck when i drove the befor i welded the dis i had a gm dis from a 350sb i just used the springs from gm dis they were alot lighter and seemed to work fine i am just trying to help cut a few corners i know how it is on a limited buget and 439.00 bucks is alot to save but the D.U.I is a nice dis but pricey

Our Street/Strip D.U.I. is not as expensive as our Racing D.U.I.
The Street Strip D.U.I. is good for a strong 7000 rpm's.
