Hi everyone, need your input once again. I took my 2001 Escape 6 cyl to Sears to check the brakes as my brake light came on. Brakes are also squeaking. They advised me that the brakes were fine and that it was sensor(s) issue. Is this the kind of think I can do myself,or do I need to take it to the dealer? Any ideas?
AFAIK there are no "sensors" on the escapes that will illuminate a light when your brakes are low.. however the IS a fluid level sensor.
As your pads wear, your fluid level will go down. The sensor/float in your master cylinder is designed to come on when the fluid gets down to the level in which the front pads would be worn... so it kind of alerts you when you need brakes.. or if your fluid level is low.
If they've determined that the brakes themselves are fine, you may just need to top off the brake fluid. I've also seen alot of escapes with leaking master cylinder caps, so it may be a good idea to replace the cap.. flush your brake fluid.. then make sure it's full.
is it the brake light or the e-brake light? Does the e-brake work properly? Had to get the whole e-brake handle and assy replaced..that shut off my brake light.....
Its the emergency brake light that's on. The thing is that the e-brake is working perfectly fine so I am just going to leave it alone. The red light does not bother me enough to continue looking into possible causes. The Sears auto tech states brakes are fine. I'll take him at his word. Thanks guys.
