I failed the emission test
I have a 92 ford expolorer4x4 XLT. I wanted to get the inspection stiker and what a big surprise, It failed the reading was 1020. Would you like to give me an advise and tell me what could be the possible causes? Please

Is this a 5.0?
I used to have a 1988 Crown Vic 5.0.
Same thing happened.. it seemed to run well... didn't guzzle gas (well not any worse than usual)...
Found my O2 was heavily biased lean... replaced it.. same problem
Could find no reason why the engine would be running lean.. no pinging.. plenty of power.. smooth acceleration.. put a MAP sensor on.. still same problem.
Replaced ECM... thought for sure that would fix it!! NOOOOOOOOO! No such luck.
After screwing around.. finally found the ground had corroded off... wire was just hanging there.. it bolts on the back of the intake.. PITA to get to... and even to see. I actually came across it on accident feeling back there for loose or broken vacuum hoses... Fixed the ground and my emissions were from super dirty to super clean.
Just something to check.
