2006 F350 CC. I going to purchase SCT with Innovatives tunes. Truck is everday driver, tow about 6 times a year and wont be running extreme tune. Will have MBRP turbo back, and necessary guages. How worried do I need to be (honestly) about the tuner causing problems, headgaskets especially?
If you don't already have evidence of puking then you'll probably be OK. It is really a loaded question and one nobody can really answer for sure. The SCT programs can be really safe, depending on your programmer and how you drive. There are some really really good tow programs with the SCT. The adjustability of this tuner is infinite, so you can get whatever you want---if your tuning person is good enough.
Most of the people running the SCT have had good luck with it and it appears to be one of the best if not the best tuner available at this time.
As far as you blowing a headgasket, it is possible to do this stock, just beaware that if you have a headgasket failure and a tuner, dealer/Ford can refuse to repair this under warranty.
Now as far as using your tuner, if you pay attention to your guages and drive smart you will probably not see a problem. But if you have a heavy right foot and don't keep track of your gauges, and/or push it hard when towing you could have a problem. Bottom line when running a tuned engine you need to drive smart.
I have a farily modded engine with stock gaskets and bolts currently. I have 13K on it and have raced it quite a bit at the drag strip. I haven't had a problem, yet. But, I do have ARP studs waiting for the next round of mods, hopefully this next week. These are just TOO much fun not to play with. BTW- Will be at the Kansas City International Raceway tommorrow running her again.
I had the same concerns as you, my 05 has 30K on the clock and the last thing i wanted was a mod that would potentially damage my turck and void the warranty.
So i did ALOT of research over the past 5 months and decided on the SCT from I.D.
So far it's been everything and more than i asked for.
I have no plans to race it or drive it like a race car, that's what the Porsche is for.
Just keep everything that comes off it in the most original form possible and you can easily reuturn it to stock and have it towed in -worst case scenario of course.
Agreed. I've had the sct from I.D. with the xtreme tune loaded for about 3 months now. Currently I have about 4000 miles on the clock. I don't have a heavy right foot but its nice to have the power when you need it. Just my 2 cents
