To replace the sector shaft seal, you need a pitman arm puller to remove the pitman arm. With that off, remove the snap ring and put a bucket under the gear box and start the truck and crank the wheel to one side. The seal should come out. Then hammer in the new seals, replace the snap ring, and install the pitman arm.
Just so you know, the bearing in there might be bad too. I found this out after I changed out the seal and it started leaking again in 3 days. If the bearing is bad, you will have to pull the gearbox, take off the top cover with the adjustment bolt, and hammer out the bearing that way.
Thanks for the info topfisherman. Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I just walked in the door from surf fishing at the Jersey shore. I got skunked again.

What is involved in removing the gearbox? Is it very technical and require specialized tools? I'm thinking about just ordering a rebuilt gearbox for $195 and installing it if it is a simple process.
to remove the gear box you have to first remove the 2 hoses and then remove the pitman arm. then remove the 1 bolt at the top of the gear box where it attaches to the shaft. then remove the 3 bolts attaching it to the frame.
this weighs about 75 pounds so be ready.
i had to get another gearbox for my bronco. got one from the junk yard for 35.00.
if you get one from the junk yard be sure to check for leaks first. 1983 thru 1996 will fit.
