Oil on engine block

I recently changed the fuel filter on my F350 7.3L Diesel 2001, with 100,000 miles on the engine, bigger than life truck. I know that all engines get some type of oil leak etc., after a point. I noticed that on each side of the engine block, from underneath and toward the back, small amounts of oil have collected. On one side it has run down to the starter, and on the other it’s just near where the oil pan bolts to the engine. Does anyone have any idea about the source or find similar deposits on their engines.

Valve cover gaskets are the usual suspects. You can get a dye that fluoresces under UV light, it will lead you right to the leak.

check your high pressure oil pump line fittings. there is also a plug on the rear of the pump. the orings dry out and creates a seap or a squirt depending on how much oring is left.
