1. Remove rear bumper.
2. Remove rear tail lights and remove the wiring for the taillights.
3. Remove the gas filler neck from the bed.
4. Remove the eight nuts from underneath the bed where it mounts
to the frame.
5. Have some buddies help you remove the bed.
I've done it a few times and never had to remove the bumper...other than that I agree. If you're by yourself get some 10' or so 4x4's, jack the bed up(engine hoist works nice here) and put the 4x4's under the bed with a big enough width/height to roll the truck out from under it(done it that way too). Bed remove is perty darned simple.
