Good Morning: I have, as stated above a 2001 Ranger 4x4 w/4.0L & automatic transmission. It has been running rough at idle intermittently lately so I put my Autoxray EZ-Scan 5000 on it to see what's up. Everything appears to look good except two failed tests. I haven't been able to determine what these are as there are no descriptions, maybe someone can help me out. The readiness tests that failed are:
OBDMID $00 Test ID $2A Fail 0000 not >= 8400 0000 not >= FFFF
OBDMID $00 Test ID $2B Fail 0000 not >= 8400 0000 not >= FFFF
As far as running rough at idle, I have changed the plugs and wires within the last two months and still have this annoyance.
PS. It is sad to say when you upgrade this scanner to the extended OBDII, the descriptions go away on some of the readiness test monitors.
Your EZ scan doesn't give EZ test results. Does it have a "generic" OBD-II mode you can use that will give a better description as to which test results this is referring to?
I'd be willing to bet it's the catalyst monitor and the evap monitor that isn't set, neither of which will typically cause a rough idle.
Being you have a 4.0 you might want to check into replacing the intake gaskets... not a bad repair to do, and the cause of 90% of 4.0 rough running (especially when cold) problems.
I will try the generic mode rather than the Ford, I hope it is not the intakes, there is only 50k on this motor. The good news is that the roughness starts after it warms up...not cold. Could this be a couple of dirty injectors?
