I have a friend that owns a 2005 PS 1 ton with 40,000 miles on the clock. The truck is bone stock. The truck has been very problematic. The more I hear of his issues the more I think the truck isn't being properly diagnosed. I was hoping for some insight.
Currently the truck is missing, won't rev up in neutral, low on power and almost undriveable. The dealers, 2 now one refuses to work on it, have installed 12 injectors and waiting to install 4 more when they arrive. It has had two low pressure pumps and one high pressure. The truck has lost the oil cooler, and a head gasket. The missing is constant and never clears up. The truck has never had fuel in the oil to our knowledge. It isn't a town truck it is a work truck. It pulls heavy loads and gets driven for 40 or more highway miles everyday. Any ideas are very welcome.
Thanks in advance,
One4

Reason: Owner is seeking information for legal proceedings for a buy back.
the oil cooler usually pumps oil into the coolant, let me tell you this is messy. it does sound like it might be a dealer issue but with so many injectors i want to know some maintainence records before i would touch it. proper oil changes, and clean fuel and the injectors really dont die unless someone is not torqueing them properly. 12 huh? wow!! what was the reason for two oil pumps?
The oil pump didn't fail. They replaced two of the low pressure fuel pumps. I don't think anyone was aware that if the oil cooler fails the engine should be replaced. I seriously question the two dealers that have worked on this truck. IMO they have been throwing parts at it hoping for a bullseye.
The truck has had a multitude of fuel filters put on it and all the regular maintenance as far as I know. It doesn't have enough miles to be to far off anyway.
Which event happened first? If the oil cooler failed that contaminated the oil system. Ford will replace the engine under warranty.
The high pressure fuel pump went out taking 4 injectors with it; replace under warrantee. Low pressure pump also replaced (I think).
Truck was over heating with a load. Truck died on the road. Four more injectors went out (the other 4 that didn't fail the first time) warrantee denied and the truck was taken to another dealer. Low pressure fuel pump also replaced. Replaced under warrantee.
Drove the truck for a month and the oil cooler went out. Water in the oil system. Replace by new dealer under warrantee.
Truck running like crap again. A multitude of tests and flashes.
Truck ran for two days and started missing like crazy. Hold your foot on the floor and no revs past 2000rpm.
This accurate to my knowledge based on the owner and my conversations. The truck has been to the dealer six times total. The owner is POed and wants action. The first dealer denied warrantee based on the fact that the owner has his own fuel tank on his ranch. The fuel tested fine but the dealer was going to make him pay for the 4 injectors, even though they were the four that didn’t fail the first time, with no warrantee coverage. The owners son in law has a 2003 6.0 that uses the same fuel tank and the truck has been flawless. It has 100,000 plus miles on it and runs wonderful. There have been no issues with fuel in all their other trucks, tractors, or equipment. In my opinion the dealer refused warrantee based on a huge backlog of trucks. They were 3 weeks out on getting to the truck in the first place.
I hope this helps. I will verify that the above is accurate and correct anything stated if it is not. The order of low pressure fuel pumps may not be accurate but, I am sure the rest is.
This almost mirrors a truck my dealer had. Customer complaint was verified, injector imbalance and over heat issue. EGR Cooler failed, oil cooler failed.
All components were replaced under Fords recommendations, no head gaskets, issues still remained as if the system was contaminated, new engine was sent to replace.
heres how i am seeing it. within the injectors and both pumps, someone does not know how to fix it. seriously tell this guy try another dealer. i can create scenerios where all this works, but with me not being there i really dont want to take a blind shot. with these trucks, some people either need to step up, or step out!
