Hi im new to the forum but i'll say a little about my pickup at question. 77 1/2 highboy n p 203 t case, 351 m bored/stroked 409 (yeah REALLY hard to find stuff for) d-60 rear d-44 front c-6 with do dads, had the truck in the family since bought from factory. first start up since new engine and tranny and the starter stays engaged. new silonoid new starter and still no fix. also the key wont crank it i have to jump the selinoid. my chilton book doesn't seem to be exact with the wires since my 79 mud truck is ok but diff. from the book. if any one has experinced this please help or even call 573 228 2625 name is j.c. and i've had these trucks since i was 15 seen them since i was born and feel dumb for not knowing what to do.
Does then engine turn while cranking, if it does and the starter stays engaged while its tryin to run maybey theres something up with the ignition wiring at either the solenoid or even the ignition itself. I would check the remote starter solenoid and make sure you dont have a couple wirse crossed there to begin with. Then maybey you need to check and make sure that the starter has the correct number of teeth for your flywheel, if its off itll bind up there too.

I swapped an new engine into my truck this summer. And I had the same problem. I found out that my battery was not charging and that the plug that goes to the voltage regulater was bad. The plug was just toast. new plug solved everything.
thanks i got it now. man this new engine combo is great. Now 1st and reverse wont engage I swear its one thing after another. oh yeah it has a pop in the front with hard acceleration. I checked spider gears and its full time locked in and when front drive shaft is out it doesn't do it
