Obtained a very nice '66 dash panel with the extra 2 gauges that I wanted for my '65. Very nice in the sense that there are no cracks and the detailed grain is not diminished in any way. Naturally the chrome finish leaves a lot to be desired but it is an excellent base. Question is how to re-finish it. Do I send it out to have it re-done and to whom? Are there reflective chrome type spray paints out there which might do the trick? Suggestions?
Saw the web address for "qualitymustang" which I will give a call tomorrow morning as the first stop.
tbm, have you checked to see if 'quality mustang' web site is valid.
I believe it may be the same 'Quality Mustang' who reconditioned the custom cab instrument panel in my 65 few years ago. The company was located in Texas, and I spoke with person by the name of Ray. I called few places and decided to go with 'quality' after speaking with the owner. Over the past couple years, occasionally tried emailing them but was not successful. Seem to recall coming across web site not too long ago but don't remember steps taken to get their. Anyhow, I was very please with the work they had done, total came to around $125. If your panel is intact with no cracks and do not want to put much into it then imagine could give it thin coat of plastic type paint.

Repro ones are now available from Dennis Carpenter, but they do not have the holes for the extra gauges. There really is no substitute for the real chrome finish. However, "for now" I redid mine with 'chrome' spray paint, and even I am pretty pleased with the results. Use a degreaser for painting to clean up the surface first. Don't sand anything, as the detail on the dash is not very deep. The worst part is masking off the two round bezels for the fuel and temp as they don't come off. Very creative use of tape and a lot of cussing will get it done. Clean the clear lens while it's apart and repaint the needles with flurescent red paint. It's possible to pry the rings off the extra gauges to do those. Really makes them look new.
Came across website of a 'quality mustang' who appears did the restoration of the dash on my 65. Business located in Texas, and apparently owned by person by the name of Ray. If it quacks like a duck then perhaps same company. Came across 'sent' email and the address for the quality mustang I dealt with was 'quality mustang' fast67@comcast.net. If same then must have change email address.
Came across 66 interior posted in classic truck magazine site. Cool, don't think I would be hauling a load of asphalt in. Anyhow, kinda nice to check out.
