I had 0617 flash done on a recall at my 15,000 mile check. I noticed loss of power and returned vehicle imediately, had very heated arguments with dealership to no avail. was told thats what i get., and they can't remove flash. I have had to live with loss of power, and a loss of about 3 to 4 miles per gal. for at least 6 months. I now have read 0n your forum that maybe reflash wasn't performed properly, and that many people have had same problem. I have not read any answers that anyone taking their truck back and having prob. esolved after applying the correct method of performing the reflash? Also removing all batt. power for 10 minutes, do I need to follow any certain restart sequence and will it do any good. Thanks for your help.
disconnect the batteries on night before bed. when you get up reconnect the batteries. switch truck on twice. then let truck warm up for at least 5 minutes. then go floggin'. i cant promise anything bout the mileage, but your power should come back. if it doesnt then you have a issue but not with the program.
Bowtie...don't you mean cycle the key two times to the on position, then restart truck? I have seen that written on here by another tech.
Yes, it is very frustrating to get the recall flash, then loose power and mileage. It has happened to me. I went through the battery disconnect, power is a little better but not the same as off the assembly line new. I used to get 16 mpg all the time but can't even get that on the highway now. Dealer of course claims nothing is wrong. I am going back this month for try number two on topic and another issue.

I haven't gone back for an attempted reflash fix because 1. no time 2. its like pulling teeth to get them to do rework 3. they have the truck for 2 to 3 days for anything, and that means i have to get a rental car. 4. Money, money, money.

What year is your truck?? I have an '05 PSD and have not had any recall with that ID. I did have a couple of them done on notification, but they didn't hurt performance.
By cycling the key twice, then let it idle, it teaches the computer the idle strategy for the EGR to be closed. Once it learns this... then you can drive.
My tech did the PCM upgrade/re-flash and just started it per the "on-screen" instructions... and maybe he did cycle the ignition... but he did let it idle.
I would try it and see... and they can always re-flash (or at least hook up to the computer again) and see if any codes or "issues" show up. I know that on my techs system... if the computer he has senses that my PCM is at the current level of prgramming... nothing will download... since all is well and at current PCM programming level.
By the way... took my tech 20 - 30 minutes to reflash each time I have been in over the last 3 years.
I did the battery disconnect and started the truck next day, truck seems to have more power but won't know for sure until I pull my trailer. thanks I still would like them to do the reflash properly, since they may have reprogramed the transmission at the same time. The loss in power would make the transmission kick down a gear when I would try to pass another vehicle even when I used medium pressure on the gas pedal.
thanks alot for the info. at least now I have some ammo to take to the dealer.
