When I replace the rear leaf springs in my 78 f250 4x4, I will need to add a few inches to level the rear up with my front. I was wondering what people have used for blocks to lift it up. I will haul/pull loads around and I also will do some off roading with it too. It looks like I will need to add 2 to 4 inches. Thanks.
If you are planning on replacing the rear spring packs I would purchase a set of 2" or 4" lift packs and would not install any lift blocks, except for the stock blocks with the bump stop brackets on them. If you are on a tight budget and are not going to replace the rear spring packs then you can purchase 2" or 4" lift blocks from BDS, Super Lift, etc... and install them with longer U-bolts. -Ed
Get the spring packs and do it right. If you are near a major city there may be a spring shop that has experience with springs. In KC the guys just eyeball the vehicle, ask some questions, then go to work and do it right. They can rebuild your springs, insert new leaves, etc, whatever is required. Probably cheaper than you can mess with it yourself and a whole lot quicker/easier. They know their stuff at KC Spring.
Well I am about 2 hours north of kc and hour south east of Omaha. And I am on a tight budget. But the thing is I got a set of rear leaf spring off a 1991 f250 460 autoOD 2wd I was going to use cause dad is going to junk the truck. My rear leaf springs are shot, driver's side has 6 leafs, passenger's side has 8 leafs and sits 3 inches higher than the passenger side.
Sounds like your present springs are trash, not even worth using. Pick up another set from a boneyard to go with the 91 springs. Disassemble the 4 good packs and build a good set from them by carefully mixing and matching leaves. I have done that when on a tight budget.
For my 4wd conversion, I built spring drop brackets to gain 6" lift and not use blocks at all. I had 2 blocks stacked and hated it. However, like others have said, it sounds like you really need new leaves.
Yeah i need new springs, thats why I was going to use the rear springs off a 91 f250 2wd. I am planning on getting a matching set to put under it. I got hopes to go look at two parts trucks tonight.
