I have a 1983 F-100 with a factory tach, which has lately taken to jumping when idling or light accelerating. Does any one have any guesses? also my headlights turn on and off at random, any ideas? help!!
i would go with bad connections.. or loose ground.. one of those... i would check all the connects in the motor bay... and check for loose wires.. especially grounds... that happend to me awhile back... hit a bump and lights and everything would shut off for a sec... then pop back on
The circut breaker in the light switch itself becomes defective over time. A new light switch usually cures this problem.
You can also try and put some white lithium grease in the headlamp connector. I've had problems with fog and dew building up behind the headlamps at the connectors shorting them out, causing the circut breaker to cycle. The grease sealed the moisture out.
As for the tach, check the tach wires leading from the coil for loosness, or corosion.
