Need a good exhhaust system 4 my 96 F150, 5.8l, XLT, Standard cab, 4X4, short bed. I have been looking at gibson but just heard a couple of bad reviews, dont know about flowmaster but heard great reviews. I dont want a load annoying sound like some systems give, but I am hoping for something to let my 351 hum! Also will be towing small boat that weighs 1400lbs.
Any ideas. Please let me know.....
I have flowmasters on both the 92 and 04. When I replaced the pipes on my on my 92 the origanal pipes rusted out I went from 1-3/4" pipes to 2-1/2'' pipes and there went my fuel mileage. If I have to do again with either truck I'll go back to my smaller pipes.
Both sound good though.
My flowmaster setup only lasted a few years.Went to lean on the muffler to get a bolt off and all the welds broke.Took it off and ran a piece of straight pipe. It's quiet even with headers until you get rid of the stock y-pipe.
if both stock cats are still in place on the truck you can loose the muffler and still make no noise.
if you want a decent sound, and are not afraid to spend a few bucks, get a set of headers a highflow cat and decent muffler, or two of each if you want to run duals.
on my 96 [with a 5.0] i ran true duals, 2 1/4 inch pipe off each manifold, used a o2 simulator so i could loose the cats, hung a set of cherry bomb super turbos before the axle, and stuck the pipes out the back tru 3 1/2 inch angle cut crome tips.
at idle its got a nice quiet broom broom broom sound, its got a little tone from off idle to half throttle, and then a wicked cackle under full throttle.
it was a hell of a lot cheaper then buying a cat back system and it sounds damn good, you just cant be afraid to get under there and get dirty, i cut all my pipes to size and then took them to a muffler shop to have the ends flared. i clamped mine together at first and then had a buddy weld it up later, total cost was about 135 bucks
