adding more Guages

I Currently I have a 3 guages on the A-Pillar (EGT, boost, tranny temp). I would like to add a fuel pressure guage after doing the in tank, pre-pump mods & regulated fuel return next month. I was considering adding a 2 or 3 windshied guage mount.

My question is:

what would your recommendations be on other guages to use?

I have a Dieselsite coolant filter kit so it would be easy to run a water temp guage. So I have been focused on the fuel pressure & Water temp guages lately. But if I'm going to install 2 guages should I go ahead and get the three guage kit and get an addition guage? If so, which guage (except the clock!)?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

why not go with an oil pressure or temperature gauge

I went with Water Temp, Fuel Pressure and Trans Temp, but since you already have it the Oil Pressure and Volt Meter gauges seem pretty popular.

I am also happy with the gauge mounts I used:

Get the 4 gauge mount, that way you won't wish you would have gotten it instead of the triple gauge mount. Water temp, Fuel pressure, Oil pressure, and Oil temp. Those are the four i'm getting once i get my chip and VB and trac bars squared away. Get all electronic senders with 8-10' leads if possible. Above the windshield is probably the farthest away from the senders as you can get. Talk to Garrett @ PureDieselPower.com. He can work up a set of gauges for you, just tell him what you need.

I'm adding three more (hopefully this weekend) in the overhead windshield mount. I'm going to add oil pressure, oil temp, and water temp. I've already got fuel pressure at the top of my 4 pod A-pillar mount, so that one is already covered for me.

I agree with Kris to go ahead and get the 4 pod mount and have no regrets wishing you had gotten one more. But, if you're dead set on the 3 pod and just want to add 2 more in addition to fuel pressure, it's a tossup. Oil pressure is good to know, but the truck will die from lack of oil to the injectors before any lower end damage is done. Oil temp would be good, because that's what the PCM acutally reads to determine when the truck is up to temp. But, water temp could alert you to any cooling problems that wouldn't show up on your stock gauge until it's too late. I'd just get the 4 pod.

Edit: if you go with Autometer's, the fuel pressure is the only one that will need an extended lead. The other 3 all are single wire sensors, like the trans temp, that you supply the wire for, so you can make them as long as you need. But, the fuel pressure one barely had enough wire to make it to the top of my pillar mount, so you would need extra to reach the middle of the windshield.

PS - I'm all for adding extra gauges. I'm already trying to figure out what I can put into a cubby mount 3 gauge pod. I'm thinking volt meter, a vaccum gauge for my fuel filter, and still coming up with one more.

Pass. side pre-turbo pyro, might help monitor your engine better. And if your doing that you might as well throw a pyro down stream post turbo to monitor things. three pyro guages would awesome! I also like the difftemp gauges idea along with water and oil. I would like a guage to tell me when its that time of the month for my wife so i would know better not to mod my truck.

Hadn't thought about that. Not a bad idea if I'm looking to fill a hole. At least it would be useful.

I actually already have that. Post turbo pyro was the first one I had, then wised up and added the pre-turbo.

Do you have any idea how much I'd pay for a gauge like that?!?! That would probably be the most valuable piece of information I could get.

Thanks for all the input guys, some cool ideas out there I hadn't seen or thought of. I just need more $.

Anyhow, I did some research and the "time of the month guage" has some issues with it. Occasionally it will get jelious of the other guages & can shut them all down for 3-5 days every month. The guage can also tend to run the motor HOT and the turbo whistle changes to a whirling nagging type sound. The most common issue is the guage light can turn into a type of death ray that shoots a high powered laser into your eye & through your skull. It won't kill you but the only cure seems to be drinking a few beers while in the garage .

Also, if you try to ignore the guage - worse things happen..............
