285s vs. 305s

Looking at the BF Goodrich All Terrain T/As and am leaning towards the 305/65R18s over the 285/65R18s but dont want them to stick out to far from the truck. Its going on a 2004 FX4. If anyone has pics of their trucks with either of these tires on the stock 18" FX4 rims please post. Thanks

I don't think that the 305's will stick out anymore, just be taller. I have the 285's on my truck on the stock king ranch wheels. Check out my gallery. IMO, I would go with the 305's. They were not available when I purchased my tires. Anyway, they both will look great!

Exclamation Will they fit?

Will the 305's fit with just a leveling kit? I thought 285 was the tallest you could go? Anyone on here have this set-up?

285/305 is the width of the tire. I wonder if the 305 would rub on a full turn?

Yeah, 305 is the width. They are both a 65R18s so they are the same hight. I have the 2.5" leveling kit on it and have been told that I would not have a problem with 305s.

Actually the 65 is the aspect ratio - it is not the height. The 285 is 32.58 tall and the 305 is 33.7, so there is actually over an inch of difference between the two. you can search aspect ratio to get a good description of how is works.

You can fit up to 35's with a leveling kit if you put them on stock wheels.

How much is changing from 275s to 305s going to change the height of the truck. I have limited space to park my truck and inches count.

Well the stock 275/65R18s are 32.1 inches tall, and like previously stated, the 305s are 33.7" tall.
So that equals out to being about 1.5", which will only be .75 of a inch on the bottom and .75" on the top.

I would go with the 285s, only for mpg purposes, but other than that, if it'd be for off road purposes, then the 305s would give better ground clearnce, and be alittle wider, giveing more foot print, which would mean more traction.
