It would be a 9 inch or an 8.8 and it sounds like you know what a 9 inch axle lookslike so it would be a 9 inch only. Nothing else looks like a 9 inch or nothing that came in the trucks.

I just wanted to confirm it, the person I bought it from said its a 8.8, but it looks like a 9 to me, I just wanted to know if the 8.8's had the same design where the carrier, yoke, and diff. are removable in one unit like that (its hard to describe what I mean, but you know what 9 inch looks like) or if he's just wrong, also he said the front end is a d44 I think he's right about that, because I think that was the only front end that came in 84 f-150

The 8.8 will have a rear cover on the axle to remove the gears and as you described the 9 inch removes from the fron as a whole unit.

In 84 or 85 ford dtarted to switch over to the 8.8 axle but a 9 inch could be found as late as 86 in the ford trucks.

The front axle will be a TTB D44 axle. 79 and earlier used a straight D44 axle.

This is true and a good point but the 8 inch never came in a truck application.
