Rearend Conversion

Hey, i am a proud owner of a 78 ford f-150 XLT ranger with a big old 351 cleveland and my rearend blew. my axle gears went. i was wondering since it is a limited slip rearend, can i change it to a true pozzy. like i took the clutches and the axle gear with no flange on the back out, and i put the other axle gear in the hole which the clutches gear went into and it fit but it had a little bit of play inside there. Shouldn't the axle hold it inplace? or just scrap the whole idea cause its no possible and just leave it as a limited slip?

Welcome to the site

Where did that 351 Cleveland come from ?
They quit making them in 1974 and never put them in trucks

Posi is a GM term.
On here it is Limited slip or Traction Lok.

You are best asking specific differential questions in the drivetrain forum.

That's where the axle guys hang out.

If you want both wheels to spin(or hook) at all times, then buy a spool. A spool locks the axles together. A spool will cause the tires to chatter when making sharp turns and will also increase tire wear in general. If you want a streetable form, buy a locker, not a posi or limited slip, but a locker. If you want to have a nice quiet smooth way to spin/hook both wheels, stay with the Ford traction lock or a similar limited slip.
