I have been looking for a 10W30 oil that is available around my town with very little luck. The Ford manual recommends this weight for cold temps but the only brand I can find is Mystik at my local Farm and Fleet store. It is their JT-8 oil and claims to be a synthetic/petroleum blend.
Does anyone have any experience/feedback with this oil?
I know their grease is considered some of the best in the industry and has been for years, but I've never had any experience with their oil. You should be able to run a 5w40 synthetic and not have issues. Just make sure it's diesel rated and meets the required API spec. Do you have a Ford dealer close to you where you can get the motorcraft?
Motorcraft 10w30. You cannot go wrong with motorcraft oil in a 6.0. I don't now if Ford has a diesel rated synthetic for the 6.0's or not, but I'm sure one of our fine resident tech's will know or maybe Matt.
Motorcraft doesn't have a full synthetic that is diesel rated as far as I'm aware, but both of thier diesel rated oils (15w-40 and 5w-30) are synthetic blend and seem to work quite well in the 6.0.
I'm currently running Motorcraft's fully sythetic 5w-50 oil in my truck, which is designed for the Ford GT. It DOES have a diesel rating, but it is a much older specification (CH) and doesn't meet the factory requirements for the 6.0 as far as soot control is concerned. It works GREAT for me however, seeing that I have an open crankcase ventilation system and the EGR system has been removed (much less soot). I highly recommend it for engines with major modifications due to the fact it is a relatively thin oil (helps with both low and high pressure oil pump flow and cavitiation at higher rpm) but holds its viscosity at ridiculous temperatures- I have heard rumors from several people very knowledgable about the Ford GT and Shelby GT500 that the oil performs comparibly to how a 70 weight would act at 250+ degress EOT, which helps keep the engine alive longer under overload conditions.
If push comes to shove and you can't find anything else, I would just stop at the Ford dealership and get what you need of the 10w-30 synthetic blend.
