47 front end

I was going to search for this but could not find the search function. Have they removed it?

Anyways, currently my front wheel pattern is something ridiculous like 5 on 7.5". I'm looking to convert it to something more common, like 5 on 5.5" or 5 on 4.5". What vehicle's hubs bolt right up? Or should I look into getting stock 47 hubs?

Thanks for any help

Joker, what size is your truck? There really isn't anything quite as simple as bolting on hubs, you will be looking at potentially swapping brake with something else, or adapting another model's spindles to the axle. But we'll start with finding out what size your truck is.

Regarding the search function...check out the site announcements forum further down the forums list page. Ken turned search off until the new servers arrive. Search was turned off to keep the current server from having any issues.

My truck is a 3/4 ton according to the title. What I was told from the guy I bought it off of, it has a 2 ton banjo rear end. I already got a new rear end out of a 69 mustang to replace it. The front wheel pattern is 5 by 7.5" so I want to replace it to match the rear, which is 5 by 4.5" I believe.

Thanks for any help.

Your front wheel pattern should only be 5 on 6.5", so how you ended up with that bolt pattern is beyond me. Check to see what front axle you have on your truck. On the passenger side, front of the I beam there should be a cast in part number, will start with 21Y if it's from a 1/2 or 1 ton truck, 21T if it's from a bigger truck. You could always just swap in a 1/2 ton 21Y axle with 1/2 ton spindles and use a disc brake kit and you get 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern. My '46 1/2 ton has 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern disc brakes on front so they'll match the 8" rear I am going to put under it.

Now, can you put hubs from a 21Y onto a 21T? What vehicles disc brakes bolt up or can you buy a kit?

Thanks,

Matt

The 21Y axle is used on both the 1/2 and 1 tons trucks, however the Ford parts book calls for different spindles for the 1/2 and 1 ton trucks. You might have to swap to 1/2 ton spindles as there are currently no kits ready made for 1 ton spindles. I am running into a similar issue on my 1 ton. I'm just going to swap som 1/2 ton spindles on the stock 21Y axle from a parts truck I have. You can buy ready made disc brake kits from several places. Check out a Street Rodder magazine for some suppliers. The kit I used has rotors from a late '70's Mopar, and calipers from a mid '70s Chevy, such as a Monte Carlo.

Gary:

As you know, the 1/2 tons use the "21A" spindles (same as 42-47 passenger).

The 122" 1-tonner uses "21Y" spindles. 48-52 F-1 self-energizing brakes & hubs are a direct bolt-on using F-1 bearings. I ran this set up in my '45 for 20k+ miles before installing a Mustang II IFS and they are a big improvement over the earlier style brakes.
