I had the same Idea when I was a teenager, except it was a houseboat instead of a trailer. Sounded like an awsome Idea at the time man lol. Just go find an old bush road and go squat. lol.

oh, and if anyone is looking for cheap real estate or land. most cities auction off properties where the owners haven't paid their taxes (tax sale).

So did it work out for you, or did you miss indoor plumbing

Before I bought my house, (mortgage $815/mo 1974sq/ft 4 bed) I paid $550+util's for a 500sq/ft 2 bed townhouse, $525+util's for an 800sq/ft 2 bed house in a BAD neighborhood with a neighbor upstairs, and $550 for a 400sq/ft 3 bed apartment near the college. Also paid $825+util's for a 3 bed 1600sq/ft house in a good neighborhood.
Most apartments in the good neighborhoods are $700+, houses for $1000+.

In our area, Utah north of Salt Lake, the lower middle class (me) will make between $25,000 and $30,000 annually. Usually starting wages are between $6.50 for office/filing/cushy jobs and $10.00 for concrete/framing/roofing/labor intensive type jobs.

Hope this helps! I just got tired of renting and decided to get some equity while the rates were still down... Now hopefully the market will hold strong and I'l make something when the remodel is done!

I got in a foreclosure deal in June 2003. 2 structures on one lot, 1150 SF and 1450 SF (5bed) for $90K in a basically good but older neighborhood. I got a 15 year mortgage and pay $938 a month, and rent out the larger house for $650 a month. I've put new siding, insulation, wiring, flooring, plumbing, and drywall (built in 1953 and 1913 respectively) in both houses, I did all the work myself, and this summer I'm going to do the rooves. In October of this year I had them appraised at $130K each. Pretty good turnaround if I ever decide to sell. Typical 1 bedroom apartments range from 350-475 a month, 2 bedroom from 450-625, and up from there. A nice house to rent typically runs 750 a month.
