It sounds to me like an engine miss. Sounds like the same thing mine was doing. I had a couple plug wires that would all ground out at the same rpm. If it is a torque converter shudder, I've fixed that by pouring in limited slip friction modifier into the tranny. I'd do this anyway- its good for the clutches
Had a shudder when shifting into overdrive gear on my 1994 F-150 XLT with the 5.8L auto. Turned out to be the torque converter. $650 later problem
gone.
Could a blown head gasket cause blow by? I had to drive the truck today about 5 miles. I noticed white smoke when I was taking off. I checked the oil when I got back and it looked milkey. I also had the same thing in the cap. If I unhook the hose from the oil filler neck, I get a lot of smoke (blow by) if I bring the rpms up. I am going to have to tear into this engine to find out what is going on. Goog thing I did not pay much for this truck.
My truck just started to shudder badly after it shifts into OD gear, mainly at highway speeds on a level surface. Mechanic said it may be a torque converter. Is there any way for us hacks to troubleshoot a torque converter before shelling out major bucks only to find out it was something else? My old beast is 16 yrs old and has 130K, so I wouldn't surprised at anything going bad! Is this a good time to upgrade the converter, or will that risk putting an unnecessary strain on the 16 yr old engine and transmission? Is a plain ol' remanufactured OEM converter the best way to go?
