I have a 2001 F250 with a 5.4 liter. I have a Magnaflow exhaust and a MAC air intake with a K&N filter. The best
PG I can get in town is 11.1. I can get 15 on the road traveling 70 mph. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve the in town MPG? I have a friend with a stock 1999 model with the same equipment that gets 13 mpg around town.
driving style is the only secret...put on a vacuum gauge and drive with an egg on the gas pedal and the brake pedal....learn to do coast stops....use the coast clutch in the auto tranny
all the exhaust and air filter mods. do is make more air flow....computer senses more air flow...commands more fuel flow
run tires at 2>4 lbs psi below sidewall max....watch for crown wear
Ford F250s were not designed for fuel mileage
I get that kind of mileage with my V-10 with 35" tires and I am not easy on the gas at all. I think the 5.4 is underpowered for the weight of an F-250 so it doesn't get good mileage.
i get 13mpg no matter what... i have just learned to feather the go pedal when i leave a light. it was real b#$$h especially after living in germany for 3 yrs were i drove my truck at 90 mph regularly and still got 11 - 13 mpg

That's because you probably didn't regear it when you went to larger tires. If you didn't swap gears you just lost low end power.
If you did regear
For the record I get 13 city, 15 highway.
Not sure I can offer any help to you, but that is exactly why I didn't buy an F-150 or get a Super Duty with a gas engine. My PSD is getting 17 around town and I don't even have 2000 miles on it yet.
