460 Overheating
Im having a overheating problem with my 1996 f350 460. I tow a 22ft toybox aprox 8k lbs. I have put a new 4 row radiator, water pump, thermastat, and it is still running hot when I tow. I am gonna check the timing, but it has not been changed in the last four years so idont know why it would be off. Also I have a brand new trans that seems to be working fine.
Could the new trans have anything to do with it?

My guess is the clutch fan is bad. Just takes a little bit to pull it of. I take them apart and put a small hole and self taping screw in to lock the clutch be carfull to not put in a screw that is higher than the holes in the clutch as it will hit he housing. The oil in the clutch brakes down and although it looks like it's working it's not pulling enough air through the rad to cool under slow speeds or in a hard pull. If that works than buy a new clutch fan as they do save fuel.

Did you make sure to put the metal plate that goes between the water pump and the timing cover back on when you changed the water pump?? I did water pumps on 2 460s and forgot the plates and they ran hot after. I'll never forget this again that's for sure!!!
